Google, an American multinational technology company, is best for its
search engine, which revolutionized access to information online. Founded in
1998 by Larry page and Sergey Brin, Google’s primary function is to organize
and provide access to the world’s information. Beyond search, Google offers a
vast array of services and products, including email (Gmail), online storage
(Google drive), maps (Google maps), and the android mobile operating system. It
has become an essential part of daily life for billions of people worldwide.Since 2015, Google has been a subsidiary of the holding company
Alphabet, Inc. More than 70% of worldwide online search request are handled by
Google, placing it at the heart of most internet user’s experience. It is one
of the world’s most prominent brand’s. Its headquarters are in mountain view, California. Google
began as an online search firm, but it now offers more than 50 internet
services and products, from e-mail and online document creation to software for
mobile phones and tablet computers. In addition, it’s 2012 acquisition of
Motorola mobility put the company in the position to sell hardware in the form
of mobile phones.
Google’s broad product portfolio and size make it one of the
top four influential companies in the high-teach marketplace, along with Apple,
IBM, and Microsoft.
In January 2005 Google launched Google video, which enabled individuals to search the close-captioned text from television broadcasts. A few months later Google began accepting user-submitted videos, with submitters setting the prices for others to download and view the videos. In January 2006 Google video store opened, featuring premium content from traditional media companies such as CBS corporation (television shows) and Sony Corporation (movies). In June 2006 Google began offering premium content for free but with ads.
Despite its myriad of products, the original search tools remains the
core of Google’s success. In 2023, Alphabet took in $175 billion in revenue
(57% of all Google revenue) from advertising based on user’s search request.

In January 2005 Google launched Google video, which enabled individuals to search the close-captioned text from television broadcasts. A few months later Google began accepting user-submitted videos, with submitters setting the prices for others to download and view the videos. In January 2006 Google video store opened, featuring premium content from traditional media companies such as CBS corporation (television shows) and Sony Corporation (movies). In June 2006 Google began offering premium content for free but with ads.
As of 2023, YouTube is the second largest social media platform in the
world, trailing Meta (formerly Facebook) with an estimated 2.5 billion users
worldwide. Its global advertising revenue that same year stood at $31.51
billion.
Google Apps
In 2006, in what many in industry considered the opening salvo in a war
with Microsoft, Google introduced Google Apps-application software hosted by
Google that runs through users’ Web browsers.
The first free programs included Google calendar (a scheduling program), Google talk (an instant messaging program), and Google page creator (a Web-page-creation program), This type of development, in which both the data and the programs are located somewhere on the internet, would later be called cloud computing.

Google Workspace is an extensive collection of cloud computing, productivity, and collaboration products including Gmail, contacts, Calendar, Meet, and Google Drive (for digital storage) among any other applications.
